La Maison - Guest Comments

"What a lovely cottage set in such beautiful surroundings. the weather wasn't great but we found so many lovely places to visit. Crepes in Aubeterre, Kayaking, exploring Perigueux, archery with Alex, Brantome - all highlights. Best meal was definitely our last evening  - Moulin du Pont at Lisle - fabulous. It was lovely to be relaxed and laid back and so lovely for me to reconnect with my 'old' school friend Linda - thank you both for hosting us and making us feel so welcome. We will definitely return x"

" We had a wonderful stay. Thank you! The house is so well equipped and the hosts so accommodating. The area is lovely, the highlight being our visit to Brantome Police Horses to see the great job they are doing to give the amazing animals a happy retirement. The cream tea was good too!"

"Our week at La Maison has been wonderful! It started with a warm welcome from our lovely friends and hosts, Linda and Alex, the house is stunning and feels like home from home. We have had lots of trips, to Aubeterre (the church in the rock is a must, along with a delicious ice-cream), Brantome where the kayaking is exhilarating and a great thing to do on a family day out! The market in Riberac is full of treats from crepes and meats to plants and bags, a good way to spend Friday morning. Our boys particularly loved archery taught by the talented Alex where they go to aim fire at the knight!! The walks are peaceful and relaxing and this was all topped off with lots of pool fun, chilling out and drinking wine with some old and some new found friends. We will be back soon many times."

"We've had a wonderful holiday here at Le Pommier. Linda and Alex have been fabulous hosts and full of excellent recommendations. Thanks to them, we had a fantastic evening at a night market in Bordeilles, sampling local food, listening to live music in the square while the children tried archery and paddled in the river. The winecave in Mareuil is worth a visit as the owner is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. We enjoyed trips to Riberac market, Brantome and Aubeterre, returning to cool off in the pool. If only we had stayed for longer!

"Linda and Alex, you have created a very special place at Le Pommier. I don't think I have ever felt so relaxed before! La Maison is very well equipped and the terrace, pool and garden are amazing. I shall really miss the warm, balmy evenings drinking red wine on the terrace watching the sun go down. The boys absolutely loved the pool and the barn and a highlight for them was the archery lesson with Alex followed by the big BBQ and pool party and Linda' amazing raspberry torte! La Maison is in a fantastic peaceful location with so much to see nearby. We enjoyed cycling, kayaking, go-karting (Bergerac) and trips to Bordeilles, Brantome, Perigueux, Aubeterre sur Dronne, Lac du Jemaye and Riberac market. We also enjoyed many hours in the pool, garden and barn. I think we're all this has been our favourite family holiday ever - thank you for making our 2 weeks so special, we'll be back!"

"What a wonderful stay! The house is well equipped for all needs. Pool is divine and we had awesome weather! Linda and Alex are amazing hosts, nothing is too much trouble. Linda's jam is to die for and if you need a cake (slice of England) she is your person! Lovely welcome basket, and Alex provided a great archery lesson for my partner! Feeling rested and relaxed. Hope to visit again soon!"

''A beautiful home in beautiful surroundings. It is located in the perfect place to just set off to see the best places that this part of France has to offer.

There is lots to offer at the property if you feel you need a day of rest, the pool with a fantastic view and plenty of room to lounge around. It has everyone in mind from kids to adults with bikes available to borrow and table tennis, with archery lessons on offer too from Alex himself.''

"A great location, weather and environment. Enjoyed biking, the pool and the facilities afforded by the excellent accommodation. Had awonderful meal at the restaurant by the mill - all in all one of the best gites we have stayed in during our visits to France!"

"A beautiful gite in a beautiful location. Biking in the local are quite hilly - particularly route 7 but worth it for the fantastic views. Some excellent bike routes in Aubeterre and some nice bars too! Brantome is another picturesque town with some good bars by the river Dronne, and good ice-cream too. Canoeing from Brantome to Bordeilles takes abouit 3 hours and is well worth a visit, a great way to view some local landmarks. For a place to eat Le Moulin Du Pont in Lisle is excellent. Superb food and excellent service. Finally, if you like wine, St Emillion is a must. Vineyards as far as the eye can see!

Thank you to Linda and Alex for their recommendations and hospitality. Merci beaucoup!"

"Wow, what a very nice and fully equipped gite. We came here for a few days, from Spain, to go back to some places in Riberac, Chalais and St, Aulaye, which we visited in 2017. The "duck" restaurant is L'Escapade Gourmande in Riberac. The best "canard" we ever ate! Another tip for people with children is the little beach, situated at the river and the restaurant la plage (Les Ponts, St Aulaye). We enjoyed staying with you, many thanks for the warm welcome."

"Thank you Linda and Alex for a fantastic few days at le Pommier. Everything we needed to escape London life and have a totally relaxing break.

The Gite is fantastically equipped and we all loved the pool and surrounding areas. Highlights were the lovely goodies when we arrived, especially Linda's caramelized walnuts!! Visits to La Jemaye Lake, Aubeterre and Brantome are recommended, as well as Bordeilles. Most of all the lovely warm

welcome, advice, and friendly hosts were much appreciated. A bientot!!"

''An enourmous ''merci'' for a wonderful week in your lovely gite. We really appreciated your warm and friendly welcome and felt at home immediately.

We have had sunny weather and enjoyed many relaxing afternoons by the pool, playing boules and making use of the table tennis and baby-foot tables.

We are reluctant to depart and could easily stay much longer.''

''Thank you very much for two amazing weeks!

The weather was great the first week so we went kayaking from Riberac, we visited Rouffignac cave and we had a great day in Bergerac and would recommend Le Chateau de Bridoire with all it's medieval games, great fun for both children and adults! We also went Zorbing at Mussidan which was great fun and had a day in Cognac visiting the Hennessy Distillery.''

Cooper Family, Shropshire

''Thank you Linda and Alex for two lovely relaxing weeks.

We had a great day at the Chateau in Bordeilles (worth paying for the English guide on ipods). Two fantastic meals in Aubeterre sur Dronne (La Tapazeria/Le Brasserie) and other days of good food and brilliant weather has made the holiday great.''

Storr Family, Lincoln

''Thank you for a really relaxing week. We've enjoyed sunbathing, canoeing on the Dronne, eating fabulous food and drinking too much wine!

We've loved the quiet location but being so close to town for shopping and eating out. we'd recommend Hotel de France in Aubeterre, Le Citronnier for a special meal in Riberac and Fleur d'eau, also in riberac, for a fantastic value lunch. Hello Canoes at Brantome were really great for a short 2 hour paddle.

All in all, a special week*. We hope to be back soon.''
